# Cloud API V6

Cloud API V6 is IONOS CLOUD's core infrastructure REST API. It covers compute, containers, networking, and backup resources as a single unified OpenAPI specification.

<table data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><mark style="color:blue;"><strong>Get started</strong></mark></td><td>Authentication, base URL, and a working API example.</td><td><a href="/cloud/api-reference/readme/getting-started.md">Getting Started</a></td></tr><tr><td><mark style="color:blue;"><strong>API Status</strong></mark></td><td>Check service availability and current incidents.</td><td><a href="https://status.ionos.cloud/">https://status.ionos.cloud/</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

**Base URL:** `https://api.ionos.com/cloudapi/v6`\
**Auth:** Bearer token (`Authorization: Bearer <access_token>`) or Basic Auth (`Authorization: Basic <base64(username:password)>`)

## Why a single spec?

Cloud API V6 was designed as a unified spec because the products it covers share a common foundation: the same base URL (`/cloudapi/v6`), the same datacenter resource model, the same authentication method, and the same asynchronous request lifecycle.

Products such as Managed Kubernetes, Cross Connect, Flow Logs, and Backup Service are all managed through endpoints under `/cloudapi/v6` and are defined within this single specification. Newer IONOS CLOUD services, such as CDN, VPN Gateway, and database services, are published as separate standalone API specifications with their own base URLs and versioning.

Navigation entries in the sidebar and product cards on the portal landing page link directly to the relevant tag section within this spec rather than to a separate API.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.ionos.com/cloud/api-reference/cloud-api-v6.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
