# Delete a Confidential VM

Delete a Confidential VM in the IONOS CLOUD DCD. Remove the VM and its associated storage, deallocate IP addresses, and stop billing immediately.

Deleting a Confidential VM permanently removes it from your infrastructure. You can delete the VM only or also remove its associated storage devices. Once deleted, any IP addresses assigned to the VM are deallocated and billing stops immediately.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Important:**

* To ensure that no processes are interrupted and no data is lost, [<mark style="color:blue;">stop the Confidential VM</mark>](/cloud/compute-services/compute-engine/confidential-computing-vm/how-tos/stop-confidential-vm-dcd.md) before deleting it.
* Confidential VMs do not support platform-level backups or snapshots. Use application-level backup for data protection.
  {% endhint %}

To delete a Confidential VM, follow these steps:

1\. In the **DCD**, go to **Menu** > **Virtual Data Centers**.

2\. Select the data center where the Confidential VM is configured.

3\. Select the respective Confidential VM in the Workspace.

4\. Right-click the server element to open its context menu and select **Delete Server**, or select the element and press the **Delete** key on your keyboard.

5\. In the dialog, select **OK** to delete the Confidential VM. To also delete associated storage, select **Also delete connected storages?**.

6\. Select **PROVISION CHANGES**.

7\. Select **Confirm** in the **Provision Data Center** dialog.

8\. In the **Confirm Deletion** dialog, select **OK**.

{% hint style="success" %}
**Result:** The Confidential VM and any associated storage (if selected) are deleted. The DCD deallocates the IP addresses and ends the billing cycle.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.ionos.com/cloud/compute-services/compute-engine/confidential-computing-vm/how-tos/delete-confidential-vm-dcd.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
