# Reset a Confidential VM

Reset a Confidential VM in IONOS CLOUD. The full AMD SEV-SNP hardware-enforced boot sequence runs again on reset—and if attestation is configured, its validation flow runs as well.

Resetting a Confidential VM forces it to shut down and restart immediately. The full AMD SEV-SNP hardware-enforced startup sequence runs again on reset, generating a new memory encryption key. If attestation is configured, the attestation flow is repeated on startup.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Important:** A reset forces the Confidential VM to shut down without a graceful OS-level shutdown, which may result in data loss. To avoid data loss, shut down the VM from within the operating system before resetting.
{% endhint %}

To reset a Confidential VM, follow these steps:

1\. In the **DCD**, go to **Menu** > **Virtual Data Centers**.

2\. Select the data center where the Confidential VM is configured.

3\. Select the respective Confidential VM in the Workspace.

4\. In the Inspector pane, select **Power** > **Reset**. Optionally, you can also right-click on the VM and choose **Power** > **Reset**.

5\. In the **Power State** dialog, select **Apply RESET**.

6\. Provision your changes and enter your password to confirm.

{% hint style="success" %}
**Result:** The Confidential VM shuts down and restarts. Resetting the guest re-triggers the entire hardware-enforced AMD SEV-SNP restart sequence, with the attestation flow if configured.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.ionos.com/cloud/compute-services/compute-engine/confidential-computing-vm/how-tos/reset-confidential-vm-dcd.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
