Guidance for European Union (EU) Data Act
The Data Act of the European Union (EU) is part of the EU’s broader data strategy, following the Data Governance Act. It grants users the right to export their existing data, for example, when switching to another service provider. The regulation also establishes clear rules for data sharing between businesses (B2B) and between businesses and public sector bodies (B2G). The rules regulate who can use and access data generated in the EU across all sectors and improves portability, accessibility, and control over data, especially for businesses and individuals.

General information
IONOS Cloud products are provisioned with data export capabilities to facilitate seamless migration or service transition. The feature is designed to empower users with full control over their data, enabling efficient, and secure export at their discretion.
While the data export functionality is available by default, we encourage users to share feedback regarding the reasons for any planned service changes. Such input is valuable and directly contributes to our ongoing efforts to improve IONOS Cloud products and better align them with user requirements.
Data export methods
IONOS Cloud adheres to open standards and interoperable interfaces, simplifying your data export. Users can perform data exports in the following ways:
Users can export data independently through the corresponding service interfaces using either the APIs or supporting tools. Comprehensive technical documentation and step-by-step export instructions are publicly available for each IONOS Cloud product. For detailed instructions, see Self Data Export.
Please be advised that data export procedures may vary depending on the product or service. Certain data must be exported manually by the user, while other data may be available through Bulk data export processes facilitated by IONOS Cloud Support, or through a combination of both methods.
Important information regarding data export
Please review the following important information about data export.
Do not carry out a regular cancellation: Once a regular cancellation has been finalized, data will no longer be available for export. You should only initiate a regular cancellation if all required data has already been exported and immediate deletion is acceptable. If not, you must revoke the cancellation immediately and/or contact IONOS Cloud Support to coordinate the appropriate procedure for exporting the necessary data.
Do not delete any data that you want to export: Data intended for export must not be deleted, as once deleted, it cannot be recovered or made available for export.
Validate your exported data: Carefully review the exported data to ensure the following:
Completeness and accuracy.
Availability in the correct format, version, and data status.
Integrity of the data; ensure it is undamaged and uncorrupted.
Particularly with respect to whether all required data has been included.
Data export options: The data provided through the Bulk data export is encrypted by IONOS Cloud using your encryption key. As a result, IONOS Cloud no longer can decrypt, replace, or re-export this data after the export has been completed. The storage, management, and use of this data are solely your responsibility.
Licenses: Rights of use provided as part of your IONOS contract cannot be exported. This must be substituted independently. In particular, please also consider the required licenses.
