# Return an IPv4 Address

IP addresses cannot be returned individually, but only as a block and only when they are not in use.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Note:** If you return a static IP address, you cannot reserve it again afterwards.
{% endhint %}

1. In the **DCD**, go to **Menu** > **Network Services** > **IP Management**.
2. Select the required IP block.
3. Ensure the IP addresses you want to release are not in use.
4. Select **Delete** to return the IP block to the pool.
5. Confirm your action by selecting **OK**.

![Return an IP block by highlighting the block and clicking Delete. A confirmation dialog will open](/files/7VvLPelOwa4JKu1UrVo9)

The IP block and all IP addresses contained are released and removed from your <code class="expression">space.vars.ionos\_cloud</code> account.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.ionos.com/cloud/network-services/vdc-networking/ip-address/ipv4/how-tos/return-ipv4.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
