# Create an NIC Multi-Queue ready Virtual Machine (VM)

You can turn on the NIC Multi-Queue feature for a [Virtual Machine (VM)](https://docs.ionos.com/cloud/support/general-information/glossary-of-terms#virtual-machine-vm), either a Dedicated Core Server or vCPU Server, using the [Data Center Designer (DCD)](https://docs.ionos.com/cloud/set-up-ionos-cloud/data-center-designer) or [Cloud API](https://api.ionos.com/docs/cloud/v6/#tag/Servers). This feature optimizes network performance by distributing traffic across multiple CPU cores.

To create an NIC Multi-Queue ready VM, follow these steps:

1\. In the **DCD**, go to **Menu** > **Virtual Data Centers**.

2\. Select the data center that contains the VM.

3\. Select the VM and click **Settings** in the Inspector pane.

4\. Select **NIC Multi-Queue** to turn on the feature.

5\. Select **PROVISION CHANGES** to apply the changes.

{% hint style="success" %}
**Result:** NIC Multi-Queue is now on. The server restarts to apply the changes if already provisioned. Network traffic is optimized across multiple CPU cores for improved throughput and reduced latency. For new VMs, the feature can be configured during creation and applied during initial provisioning.
{% endhint %}
