# Advisory on Managed Kubernetes Vulnerability

On July 16, 2026,
space.vars.ionos\_cloud
received a disclosure of a vulnerability affecting Managed Kubernetes worker nodes.

This vulnerability caused worker nodes running Managed Kubernetes v1.33+ to expose an internal administrative credential via the cloud-init provisioning mechanism. The credential remained readable on the node's filesystem after initial setup and could be accessed by any workload with the ability to mount the host filesystem. No CVE has been assigned to this vulnerability. It is classified as **Medium** severity with a CVSS score of **6.5**.

## Risk on IONOS CLOUD user environment

A user with permission to create a pod in a namespace without restricted security policies could mount the host filesystem and read an internal administrative credential left over from the node's initial setup. Access to this credential did not grant more rights than those already available to a legitimate cluster owner, but it could allow a workload to elevate its access within the cluster without appearing in standard audit logs.

## What action has IONOS CLOUD taken to mitigate the vulnerability?

space.vars.ionos\_cloud
identified and resolved this issue as part of a scheduled internal component update delivered on August 27, 2026.

## What action can you take to mitigate the vulnerability?

The patch has been applied by
space.vars.ionos\_cloud
and no action is required to receive the fix.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.ionos.com/cloud/security-safeguards/vulnerability-register/2026/managed-kubernetes-vulnerability.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
