# delete

Delete a Virtual Data Center and everything inside it

## Usage

```
ionosctl compute datacenter delete [flags]
```

## Aliases

For `datacenter` command:

```
[d dc vdc]
```

For `delete` command:

```
[d]
```

## Description

Delete a Virtual Data Center. This removes the VDC object AND every resource it contains - servers, volumes (and their data), LANs, NICs, firewall rules - in a single cascading operation.

NOTE: This is a highly destructive, irreversible operation. Deleted volumes cannot be recovered unless you have snapshots or backups stored elsewhere. Use with extreme caution.

You must identify the VDC either with `--datacenter-id` (delete one) or with `--all` (delete every VDC on the account) - the two are mutually exclusive. Combine with `--force` (`-f`) to skip the interactive confirmation prompt (useful in scripts) and `--wait` (`-w`) to block until deletion completes.

Required values to run command:

* Data Center Id (or --all)

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.ionos.com/cloud/tools-cli/subcommands/compute-engine/datacenter/delete.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
