Use Data Center Designer is used to manage Virtual Data Centers

What is DCD?

IONOS Data Center Designer (DCD) is a unique graphical tool for creating and managing Virtual Data Centers (VDC) in the cloud; configuration is intuitive and straight-forward with JavaScript-based graphical user interface.

How do I change the location of a data center?

You can specify the location for a data center only when you provision it for the first time. Once the data center is provisioned, you can no longer change its location.

Why can't I connect to my server with the Remote Console?

DCD Remote Console relies upon VNC (Virtual Network Computing) and requires port 5900. Please always use the latest Java version, and make ports 80 (HTTP), 443 (HTTPS) and 5900 (VNC) available in your firewall for outgoing connection requests. The Remote Console becomes available immediately once the provisioning of your server is complete.

How can I fix the error message "Missing required Permissions manifest attribute in main jar"?

When launching Remote Console, "Missing required Permissions manifest attribute in main jar" Java error message appears. To resolve this error, add an exception for the DCD URL in your browser's Java configuration.

How can I tell where my VDC is located?

  • Go to Dashboard (start page) > My Data Centers.

    - or -

  • Open the VDC

  • Hover over the flag

The tool tip displays the location of the data center.

Why is there no switch elements?

DCD does not use switches for creating network segments, because functions such as switching, routing, and forwarding are deeply integrated in the IONOS Software Defined Network (SDN) stack. The traffic distribution is handled by IONOS.

How do I connect to a server using the DCD?

Each server comes with a Remote Console which can be accessed using the DCD. This Remote Console is available in two versions, with the one used depending on your browser:

  • Java applet

  • HTML5

We recommend using the HTML5 version.
