New S3 Web Console (Beta) FAQs
The following are a few FAQs to provide insight into the New IONOS S3 Web Console (Beta) application.
The New IONOS S3 Web Console is an enhanced version of the existing S3 Web Console, offering improved user experience and guidance with a design catering to multiple target groups. Currently, the feature is in the Beta phase; we recommend keeping usage and testing to non-production critical applications as there might be possible errors in the application.
The New S3 Web Console offers an improved user interface (UI) of the application while keeping the feature set the same as the existing S3 Web Console. In comparison to the existing S3 Web Console, the following are the UI enhancements and capabilities that you will notice:
- Visually enhanced UI of the web console catering to multiple target audiences without needing external browser windows to use the application.
- Natively integrated front-end in the DCD using IONOS standard design system. Instead of an external browser window, you can access the New S3 Web Console within the DCD.
- The application offers faster responsiveness and improved performance.
- You can manage the access keys within the New S3 Web Console within the Key management tab. All the buckets, objects, credentials, and access keys are accessible within the New S3 Web Console.
The New S3 Web Console will not impact the existing users. There are no functional changes or disruptions to the existing S3 Web Console. Users can try the New S3 Web Console application interface and are encouraged to share feedback using the Feedback about this page option within the UI.
In the DCD, go to menu > Storage > New S3 Web Console (Beta). The feature is currently in the Beta phase and available to all existing and new users.
In the DCD, go to Storage > New S3 Web Console (Beta) > Key management to view the access keys. You can generate a new key in the Access keys by using the Generate a key function.
No, the existing S3 Key Management remains unaffected by the New S3 Web Console and continues to be available in the Storage > S3 Key Management. For more information, see Manage Keys. In the New S3 Web Console, these access keys are available in the Key management tab. You can perform all the key management operations in the New S3 Web Console or the S3 Key Management.
Note: The updated object storage keys are reflected in both web consoles.
Yes, you can use both the existing S3 Web Console and the New S3 Web Console to manage your buckets, objects, credentials, and access keys. The New S3 Web Console is designed in a way that all your buckets, objects, and key management functions in the existing S3 Web Console are also reflected in the New S3 Web Console. You can switch between the two web consoles anytime to manage the S3 Object Storage.
No, the existing buckets and objects in the existing S3 Web Console remain unaffected by the New S3 Web Console. These buckets and objects are also available in the New S3 Web Console. You can perform all bucket and object operations in the New S3 Web Console or on the existing S3 Web Console.
Note: The updated object storage keys are reflected in both web consoles.
The New S3 Web Console lets you store objects such as files of any format similar to that you can store in the existing S3 Web Console.
Note: The object data stored in either new or existing S3 Web Console are reflected in both web consoles.
The data limit to upload objects remains the same as in the existing S3 Web Console. Objects (files) of any format can be uploaded to and stored in the New S3 Web Console. Objects may not exceed 5 GB if uploaded using the web interface. Other applications or the IONOS S3 Object Storage API are not subject to this limit.
Functionally, the bucket settings remain unchanged. To offer an improved user experience and simplify the UI design, you will notice the following changes:
- The Bucket Permissions setting in the existing S3 Web Console is available as an Access Control List (ACL) setting in the New S3 Web Console.
- Bucket Canned ACL – a predefined set of permissions per grantee and Storage Policy – a setting automatically applied when a user creates a bucket, are not supported in the New S3 Web Console. As a workaround, you may continue to use these functions in the existing S3 Web Console.
No, the API reference remains unimpacted with the New S3 Web Console. You can continue to use the IONOS S3 Object Storage API functions.
The S3 Object Storage remains unchanged; we only change the web interface with the New S3 Web Console. Hence, the pricing model remains the same as the existing S3 Web Console. For more information, see Pricing Model.
The New S3 Web Console is integrated with all the IONOS S3 endpoints, the same as the existing S3 Web Console. For more information, see Endpoints.
Yes, for now, the existing S3 Web Console will be available alongside the New S3 Web Console. You can try out the New S3 Web Console while still using the existing S3 Web Console.
Note: The existing S3 Web Console is planned to be phased out in the coming months, and only the New S3 Web Console will be available to manage the S3 Object Storage.
With our ongoing efforts to continuously improve our product functions, the New S3 Web Console will offer Object Lock and Bucket Policies functionality in the near future.
